The corners reveal the incompatibility
A King fitted sheet must span four more inches of width; a Cal King sheet must span four more inches of length. Elastic does not turn one rectangle into the other reliably.
Top-sheet sharing can be intentional
A maker can use one generous flat-sheet dimension for both mattress shapes. The resulting side and foot drop still differ, so calculate coverage from the finished sheet.
