Manufacturer variation matters.

Use the exact frame’s assembly and support specifications. A platform, sleigh, canopy, or upholstered King can have a much larger exterior.

Reserve space for the 82-inch-plus exterior

The example footprint needs roughly 6.9 × 6.9 feet before adding walking clearance or nightstands. Rotate the actual exterior dimensions in the room plan.

Split foundations do not shrink the frame

A two-piece King foundation can simplify access, but the assembled bed still uses the King frame’s full outer footprint.

Measurement method

Start with the product and space you actually have.

  1. 1

Measure the mattress. Record the finished mattress width and length.

  2. 2

Measure the opening. Check the frame’s internal support opening and ledges.

  3. 3

Record the exterior. Include rails, upholstery, posts, headboard, and footboard.

  4. 4

Test the room. Add walkways, furniture operation, doors, and delivery access.

Test both frame orientationsUse your measurements instead of relying on a nominal label.
